Vision Screening

5th graders will have a vision screening done at school next Thursday, February 10th

Valentine's Day--Monday, February14th

  • This is an optional activity.  We only ask that if your 5th grader does decide to bring valentines, they will bring one for every child in the class.  (Your classroom teacher will provide a list of  names to your 5th grader.)
  • On this day, your 5th grader will have some time to pass out valentines to their classmates.
  •  In order to comply with our Covid protocols, we ask that anything edible be individually wrapped or packaged.

Math

  • We finished up Unit 4 this week.....be looking for the test to come home soon!
  • Next week we will begin Unit 5. We will continue to work with multiplication and division, but now we will be adding in fractions.
  • Continue to work on those math facts at home if your 5th grader is not fluent.  This is critical at this point in their math progression.
Social Studies
  • This week we talked about the 5 themes of geography and spent a lot of time looking at and working with maps of the United States.
  • Next week we will finish up this mini-unit with a state based project.
Literacy
  • Word Work this week included working with contractions.
  • Whole Group Reading involved all the 5th grades starting a new read aloud--Never Caught, the Story of Ona Judge .  This is a true story of a slave who escaped from George and Martha Washington.  Ask your child to share this story with you.
  • We continue to read and respond to our Survival books.
  • Students were assigned their Black History Month project.  Each 5th grade may be doing this different.  Ask your 5th grader what they will be researching, writing, and creating for this project.
SELS/Health
  • Creating healthy routines
  • Managing anxiety

PTO Fall Fundraising Campaign Extended

Now is the time to donate: PTO Fall Fundraising Campaign extended through February

The PTO depends on contributions to the fall fundraiser to fund valuable programs and resources at Franklin and Randall. Recent examples: funding cab rides to help students and their families access COVID testing and vaccine appointments; providing grant money for teachers to buy classroom books and new curriculum materials. The campaign is still shy of goal. Every dollar makes a difference. Donate securely online through the F-R PTO PayPal account. Or send a check (made out to Franklin-Randall PTO) in an envelope with your student to school, or by mail. See the PTO website for more details, including the full PTO budget.
