Math                                                                                

• This week we switched gears and looked at how to classify polygons.  How are they similar? How are they different? Nothing like some good geometry riddles to challenge us right before Spring Break!  
• For number corner we are continuing to look at area involving whole number and decimals.  We are also measuring and putting out measurements on a line plot. 
• After Spring Break,  we will revisit our old friend--volume!!

                    

Science

• What Can Determine How Much Water Is Available For Human Use?  This is the question for our next unit in science on Earth Systems.
• We finished up Chapter 4 question: "Why is there more water vapor high up over West Ferris than East Ferris?
• We took a mid-unit assessment.
• We started to look at Chapter 5 question: "How can East Ferris turn wastewater into clean freshwater?"
• Ask your 5th grader to share their thoughts on the question(s) so far....

Literacy  

• Word Work this week included taking another spelling screener and doing some remedial work as needed. 
• Whole Group Reading involved a variety of activities involving looking at Forward testing materials, working on our reading responses, and starting to think about what we want to share at conference time. 
•  Our new genre is "Book Bowl Books".  Students participating in Book Bowl will have an opportunity to do some closer reading for their upcoming competition while also strengthening their writing skills.   Those NOT participating in Book Bowl will get a chance to read at least one of the books so that they can be an active audience member. 
• Quarter 4 writing genre will be opinion.

Health

• Look for the informational letter coming home about upcoming lessons on Human Growth and Development
